The Leviathan

One of the four Desert Treasure II bosses, fought in the Scar Essence Mine. A ranged-only fight against a giant serpent that drops Virtus robes, the Venator vestige and Awakener's orbs. An Awakened variant raises the challenge for better rewards.

Should you fight this?

What you get out of The Leviathan, so you can decide if it fits your goals right now.

  • Venator vestige builds the Venator ring; Virtus robes are top-tier magic gear.
  • Awakener's orbs are needed to fight the stronger Awakened variants.
  • A pure ranged DPS-and-dodge fight — no gear switching required.

Strategy

  1. 1

    Range it down, no switches

The Leviathan can't be meleed, so it's a pure ranged DPS-and-dodge fight — bring a Twisted bow or Zaryte crossbow and focus on prayer flicks and footwork.

  2. 2

    Learn the attack rhythm

Its orb attacks speed up as the fight goes on. Get the prayer switches automatic at the slow speed before you push into the faster sequences.

Key mechanics

What can kill you at The Leviathan, and what to do about it. For the full breakdown, see the OSRS Wiki link below.

  • Orb prayer switching

It cycles blue (magic), green (ranged) and orange (melee) orbs, speeding from 3-tick down to 1-tick — flick the matching overhead for each orb.

  • Falling debris

After each volley, permanent rubble drops and chips you — sidestep it; over a long fight it eats into your safe space.

  • Enrage at 20%

Around 180 HP an abyssal pathfinder spawns a buff zone — stand inside it for accuracy and damage; outside it, the boss's attacks pierce your prayers.

  • Adjacent bite

It only bites when you stand right next to it — keep your distance (or pray Melee) and it never lands.

These figures are an independent-roll estimate: they treat every kill as a separate roll at the listed rate ( 1 − (1 − p)KC). Real drops can involve guaranteed rolls, point/invocation scaling or completion rewards, so the true odds may differ. A probability is never a guarantee — even far above 90%, the drop is never owed to you. Drops without a fixed 1/Nrate show “—”.
