Raid 4
The Fractured Archive
Old School RuneScape's fourth raid is a boss rush with no puzzle rooms, set in the ruins of Guthix's sealed vault. A team fights through five encounters per run, choosing its path at three points along the way, and the quest While Guthix Sleeps is the only entry requirement.
Overview
Where earlier raids mix bosses with puzzles and skilling rooms, the Archive is built as a run of combat encounters. Jagex describes it as a streamlined boss rush.
The route is fixed at the start and the end but branches in between. Eight bosses exist and each run meets five of them: the Archive Guardian first, Ocellus last, and one of two options at each of the three stops between.
Jagex says each of those choices is worth the same contribution points, so the pick comes down to what suits your team and gear.
Jagex's launch post gives 2 to 8 players. The OSRS Wiki lists 1 to 8 and says someone entering alone still faces bosses scaled for at least two, so solo entry is possible but not what the raid is tuned for.
Mechanics and encounters
Every run follows this route. Style notes are the OSRS Wiki's suggestions, not game requirements.
Stop 1
Always
Archive Guardian
Crush or heavy ranged; melee works once it's grounded
Stop 2
Choose one
Ezekiel
Crush melee; big special attacks help during its enrage
Bork and the Smorks
Crush melee for Bork, heavy ranged for the Smorks
Stop 3
Choose one
Moia
Ranged or magic, since she stays out of melee reach
Dreadnoth the Jellied
Bring a ranged option; ice spells help
Stop 4
Choose one
Dagon'hai Elder and monks
Bring all four elemental spell types
Xarth
Bring a ranged option; water, ice or grasp spells help
Stop 5
Always
Ocellus
Crush strongly recommended, with ranged or magic for parts of the fight
Rules worth knowing
- Scaling
- Boss hitpoints scale with the number of players in the team.
- Team wipes
- At launch, a full wipe removes the team from the raid and leaves gravestones outside. Jagex's earlier previews discussed other wipe rules, so check the latest update post before relying on this.
- Deaths are dangerous
- Hardcore Ironmen and Hardcore Group Ironmen get no safe death here and lose their status or a life. Gravestone fees are cut by 75% until you have five completions.
- Stat-drain caps
- Defence reduction is capped at 60% on the Archive Guardian, Bork, Ezekiel, Moia, Xarth and Ocellus. Dreadnoth, the Smorks and the Dagon'hai trio have no cap. These numbers were hotfixed after launch and may move again.
- Banking
- The lobby has a bank. The Grouping Board is on its east side and the Strategy Board, used for spectating, is on the west.
- Launch restrictions
- World 345 (permanent Deadman) couldn't access the raid at release, and Ultimate Ironmen need to reclaim anything stored with Pete Kayer first.
Recommended preparation
Getting in
- Finish While Guthix Sleeps. It's the one requirement Jagex lists.
- Your first attempt to enter the lobby starts a short miniquest.
- To get there, use a games necklace to Tears of Guthix with a lit sapphire lantern, or a Guthixian temple teleport.
- Once you have an archivist's folio, charging it with ascension shards gives a teleport straight to the lobby.

What to bring
- Melee, crush first
- Crush is the strongest damage type for most of the raid, and Ocellus is especially weak to it.
- A ranged switch
- Useful against bosses that keep their distance or have high Magic levels. Moia can't be reached with melee at all.
- Magic and elemental spells
- Mainly for elemental weaknesses and freezes. The Dagon'hai route asks for all four elements, and one player must be on the Standard spellbook.
- Defence reduction
- Elder maul, Tonalztics of Ralos and the Bandos godsword are the suggested options. Check the caps above, since they limit how far drains go on most bosses.
- Supplies
- Combat potions, Saradomin brews, super restores and sanfew serums, plus antipoison or a serpentine helm for the Archive Guardian's mushrooms and Moia's cough.

Strategy and progression
- Where it sits in your progression
- Jagex calls this its toughest raid yet and the Wiki's suggested levels are high, so treat it as late-game. Most accounts will get more from the raids they can already clear until their stats and gear catch up.
- Build a team first
- Jagex recommends 3 to 5 players. Practice mode isn't out yet, so your first attempts are real runs with real gravestones: go in with people you can learn alongside.
- Pick routes your team can actually do
- The choices are worth the same contribution points, so choose by what your team brought. A team light on elemental magic has a clear reason to avoid the Dagon'hai.
- Expect it to change
- The raid is only weeks old. Stat caps were hotfixed within days of launch and Jagex is still gathering balance data, so check the dates on any guide you follow.
Forthcoming on this page
- Room-by-room mechanics walkthroughs for each boss.
- Drop rates. Jagex hasn't published them, and we won't print unsourced figures.
- GP values, gp/hr and completion statistics.
- Hitpoints, max hits and full gear tables per encounter.
- Personal readiness checks and raid recommendations for your account.
